The Start
Of My Journey

June 3rd, 2008, at 1:00 pm, was the day my life changed. I sat in my truck after leaving the Doctor’s office and emotionally broke down thinking my life was over. I was just diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer. I was devastated, confused, mad as hell and scared out of my mind...

Nobody expects to hear that news. Everything happened so fast from that day. June 20th I had a double mastectomy. After a follow up doctor appointment at the end of July, doctors decided to put me on chemotherapy as a precaution, to ensure the disease didn't return.

I began a 6 1/2 year treatment starting that August, 5 months of chemotherapy and 6 years on Tamoxifen. I was told with chemo, that I would lose all of my hair, which at the time flowed past my waist. I put on a brave face, but I couldn't stop the tears.

I finished my last chemotherapy on December 16th, 2008. It was one of the happiest days of my life. I knew I would eventually get stronger, body and mind once the toxic chemicals left my body but if it weren't for the continued support of my family and friends that helped me through the depression, the bad days etc... I honestly don't think I'd be here today.

I had posted on my Facebook wall that I was done with treatment and my Doctors were releasing me from their care. My long time friend Deanna Winton saw my comment and posted ‘Journey On my Friend, Journey On'. This is how Journey On came to life…… Jeff Pfefferle got inspired reading those 2 words and did a little digging on my battle with cancer. This man, that I hadn’t even met in person yet, wrote a beautiful poem for me called Journey On. I was overwhelmed, and the words he used described my story so well.

Mutual friends of ours, recording artist Rick Tippe and Todd Richard got a hold of this poem and together the 3 of them tweaked it and it came to life with music. This song, recorded in Nashville by Todd Richard is now released to radio across Canada.

I was inspired, I knew I had a purpose in life now. I wanted to help others that were battling this disease.
I wanted to be the person to make others journeys more safe, understandable and not so scared as they weren’t going through it alone. I created the FCK Cancer to do just that. I host fundraisers to raise money to help those receiving treatment in the Surrey Cancer Clinic (Fraser Valley) The money raised does NOT go to research but goes to the care & comforts of patients. To date, the FCK Cancer Foundation has raised almost $68,320.33 for this cause. With your donation, you can help me make someone’s journey more comfortable. Though I never wish this disease on anyone, I truly believe everything happens for a reason. It has made me a better person, stronger, wiser and now I can help others with their fight. I truly do have the best family & friends anyone could ask for.

I am now 13 years cancer free and fighting the fight with so many just starting their journeys. You all must remember one thing...
